Nvidia 9600 For Mac

The GeForce 9600 GT Mac Edition was a graphics card by NVIDIA, launched in December 2008. Built on the 65 nm process, and based on the G94 graphics processor, in its G94-300-A1 variant, the card supports DirectX 11.1. Even though it supports DirectX 11, the feature level is only 100, which can be problematic with many DirectX 11 & DirectX 12. The G96C graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 121 mm² and 314 million transistors. It features 32 shading units, 16 texture mapping units, and 8 ROPs. NVIDIA has paired 512 MB GDDR3 memory with the GeForce 9600M GT Mac Edition, which are connected using a 128-bit memory interface. Version 1.3.4 adds: Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition rev 202. Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition rev 201. Radeon 9600 Pro PC & Mac Edition rev 202. Radeon 9200 Mac Edition. NVIDIA vetted driver developed for graphics cards compatible with Mac Pro computers. Even if you can employ the default OS X Graphics Driver, installing the Nvidia Quadro & GeForce Driver is recommended if you want to take full advantage of all the cards capabilities.

I experience a similar problem, until now not a single Nvidia driver works for my setup: same Macbook as OP: Early 2009 Macbook White 13' with Nvidia 9400M graphics card.

If I let Windows Update install the 341.71 driver upon restart I get into a bootloop and the machine would not even get to the log-in screen - it crashes before that, right after the windows boot logo. The same happens with the newer Nvidia driver 341.81 downloaded from nvidia.com ... any hint / tip would be greatly appreciated!

The current 13' MacBooks have a NVIDIA 9400M graphics card, not the 9600M. However, the 15'/17' MacBook Pro has a switchable 9400M/9600M GT video card. If you have a MacBook Pro you need to make certain that you have selected (or switch over to) the 9600M video mode (the option is in the System Preferences -> Energy Saver and select 'Higher Performance'). In either case, Apple provides the video drivers for the MacBooks and if you are running the latest software updates from Apple you also have the latest graphics drivers. NVIDIA won't offer MacBook drivers for Mac OS X.
However, if you are running under MS Windows (using Apple's Boot Camp) you can either use the drivers that Apple supplies with Boot Camp or try updating to the latest Windows drivers from NVIDIA. In the latter case, you probably want to post over in Apple's discussions forum on Boot Camp. Here is that link:

However, I don't know whether the latest Windows drivers will work under Boot Camp (and when you are running under Boot Camp you are NOT running Mac OS X, you have to be running MS Windows -- you're basically using your Mac as a PC).
